Reverend John Withers

John Withers is the Senior Pastor of New Hope Community Church in South San Francisco, CA. where he has been pastoring for nearly twenty years. He has been in various areas of ministry for over 30 years.  Today he enjoys assisting couples, families, and individuals in resolving conflict, while establishing boundaries to effectively communicate. By assisting them to navigate through some of life’s journeys, he is able to give them some skill sets whereby they can have a clear vision of what their defaults have been and what has kept them from progressing based on some of their choices.   Together they develop strategies whereby the individual(s) life can become more rewarding and productive.  He has been able to implement three major components to assist people in their challenging issues of life; they are as follows: spiritual, psychological, and practical.

John received his Bachelor of Art Degree in English Literature with a Minor in Speech and Communications from San Francisco State University. He then went on to complete his Master of Divinity in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. In addition, John holds an M.A. Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA. He continued to further his education by receiving his credentials as a PCC (Professional Certified Life Coach), approved by the International Coaching Federation.  In January 2017 he was elected as Presbyter of the San Francisco and Peninsula Section to oversee numerous pastors and churches of the Assemblies of God and has since been appointed as an Executive Presbyter overseeing a Regional of pastors and churches in Northern California.  Previously he had worked in the private sector for 25 years as a Facilities Manager before he moved forward and worked an additional 10 years in the public sector as the Superintendent of the County of Santa Clara before his retirement. John was married to the love of his life (Rosemary) for 40 years until her passing away. Together they have two adult daughters Angelica and Ashley: not withstanding sons-in-law and one granddaughter.
